Shopsmith, under RLF, was equally forthcoming about the issue of PP overheating WHEN ASKED. I've personally never seen a description of the limitation in a manual or in any pre-purchase literature. And so I have to ask, what change are you referring to? As a Shopsmith customer, the only change I can actually see that I attribute to the new leadership is broadly increased pricing. Going back to his interview with Scott Markwood a year or so ago, Mr. Cupps talked about new products and investment. A PowerPro upgrade that addressed overheating was specifically mentioned as a high priority. What I would see as a POSITIVE CHANGE is if that were now available, even if pricey. I hope it is still coming.stephen_a._draper wrote: ↑Sat Jun 15, 2024 3:38 pm I view all of this as a POSITIVE CHANGE. Nick Cupps is making good progress in changing how Shopsmith operates...
Jim's statement "We feel most project components can be completed in this timeframe..." is posturing and suggests to me that they are no longer working on this much needed improvement. I'm thankful that I have other options for routing, shaping, and planing, as I simply do not agree. And anyone that has ever seen the over-temp condition should not agree. The effect is cumulative, so for example if I'm sawing and jointing, then planing, then routing or shaping I may only have two minutes of routing before hitting the threshold.
I hope that you are right, that Mr. Cupps has made positive changes. But let's not forget our history. Shopsmith Inc. resurrected a long dead product line with the Mark 5/V, among their many accomplishments. RLF took over for a bankrupt Shopsmith Inc. and continued that core product line, albeit as a much smaller and leaner enterprise. And those are the reasons that those products are still supported 70 years after introduction.
