JPG Maybe even break the ER's up as well, as you are going to have a pretty accurate poll.
You should make a new poll though for sure, with the updated member list and all.

Serial Number doesn't match features

Post by rwfish »

Hi Folks,
I'm real new, just purchased a 500 today with bandsaw & scroll saw. I am going over it to see what it has and what it needs. I noticed it has serial #88736 which would put it around 1982, yet it has rough gray paint and the two bearing quill. Seems to run great. I guess I am good to go. Maybe a previous owner upgraded the quill, but the paint?

You will hear from me again I'm sure as questions arise.

Thanks,

Bob

Welcome to the forum, I would say your serial number indicates it was produced in April 1981. Sounds about like the machine I have. I have been very happy with mine, am actually going to look at a Goldie today that I found on Craigslist, pics look good, price is reasonable and I just cannot pass up going to look at it. Never thought I would buy a second one, but I do not know if I can help myself.

1962 Magna Corporation Mark V Goldie (Serial #379277); 1983 Shopsmith Mark V Model 500 (Serial #165199, w/bandsaw & joiner), Shopsmith 20" Scroll saw w/stand (Serial #030191), and Shopsmith DC3300 dust collection system. Taking my time, learning all I can and making a big mess!

Serial Number is SS-155672
This is before the double quill bearing. The paint is gray splatter texture.
I know this is a really old thread but I found this bit of trivia interesting... While browsing through this thread I noticed the same salesman's name on my dad's invoice that sold you your Mark 5 - Ed Weitz

My dad purchased his Mark V on 8/22/1982 from him at the San Antonio store.
