Question, was the engraving on these items ever painted red?

Sometimes red, sometimes black(?), sometimes no paint. Just my shaky recollections.

For the locks I don't recall seeing any painted from the factory.

I believe, but am not positive that while they had the blade height indicator, the marks on the Rip Fence were painted red. I may be confusing that with the Model 10E and 10ER Rip Fences marks which were painted red. The marks were later discontinued on the Fence as shown below.

Paint them or don't paint them, the choice is up to you. I have not painted them on any of my restorations.

A couple of the locks had a little bit of paint left in them, faded to almost a pink. So I went ahead and painted them. They look kinda cool that way.

After posting yesterday I did look at the Rip Fence for the 1957 Mark 5 Greenie I have waiting to be restored. It has red paint in the Blade Height indicator marks. Sorry I didn't dig through the parts for the 1961 Goldie I have waiting to be restored to check its Rip Fence.

Thanks for the effort. I think they look good painted, so I am going with that. I will post pics soon.

Got my shipment from shopsmith, so the head stock is going back together.

I received the 2 parts that I needed most to reassemble the headstock from Shopsmith.
