I did notice that the Miter looks like the special Mark 5 style Miter with the Model 10 Bar. Is that true?

No, this miter is unique to the Magna standalone table saws (and their Powr-Kraft-branded equivalents). You may recall a post to the Share Your Magna Memorabilia thread back in February this year that showed some of the different green miters:

You have it on a nice caster setup, but can the Shopsmith Retractable Casters fit the base? Just wondering.

I think so… I have another Magna-Line dual stand where I installed standard Mark V casters with some standoffs, so I believe the same would be true on this stand as well.

This stand actually came with a set of the original factory accessory casters that were offered with this sort of Magna stand. Lift up one side, and those casters would contact the ground, allowing for some really unsteady rolling! Not a fan of those…

I saw the manual you posted in the older 710 thread and read through it, good read and seems like a well made saw. I had noticed that the zero marks on the fence rail are close to the left miter slot in your pics and wondered if the rails are supposed to be shifted over. If I read the manual right it looks like Shopsmith arbors should work too. It would be easy to have a couple of different blades or a dado stack ready to go.

Good eye! I think you’re right on, and eventually I’ll bias that to the right when I try to calibrate to the scale on the rail. There are additional holes provided in the rail, so it can be repositioned for various applications.

If I read the manual right it looks like Shopsmith arbors should work too. It would be easy to have a couple of different blades or a dado stack ready to go.

They do fit! The spindle is like a Sawsmith RAS spindle - both threaded and 5/8” diameter with a flat, so you can either go with a Shopsmith arbor (if your blade has a larger hole), or you can use a standard 5/8” hole, 10” saw table blade.

1961 Yuba Mark 5 Goldie - Serial Number 369904c

I’m on a roll here! Taking some stay-cation over the last week, and using that time to crank out some lingering projects. This is my first Goldie restoration - very pretty machines for sure, but I think some lower material quality (and quantity - much lighter casting and lighter gauge sheet metal) prevents these from polishing up as nicely as the Greenies…

This one is earmarked for my oldest son, and I’ll be pairing it with a Magna American Goldie bandsaw that is still in process, and maybe a jointer somewhere further down the road.

There was some chatter about this serial number sometime back when I acquired the machine, as it was an example of the “c”-suffix serial numbers that were a transitional design just prior to the introduction of the poly-v style drive - making this one of the last of the Gilmers…

I agree - love the Goldie color scheme… For this I used Rustoleum Hammered Gold and Copper. Matches the colors on the brochure from the day reasonably well.

Looks good John. Another fine restoration.

That gold color really does match the brochure.

I still have my Goldie "C" unit waiting for me to get around to restoring it along with a bunch of other restorations. Maybe now that fall is here and less to do outside, I can get to work on some of those projects.

For others reading this and wondering about the Mark 5 with the "C" after the serial number, as John said, they were a transition unit still using the Gilmer Drive but with changes to the Drive Sleeve and Quill Assemblies. It was also during this time that the Mark 5 changed from the 3/4 HP Motor to the 1-1/8 HP Motor. John's Goldie Mark 5 serial number 369904C came with the 3/4 HP Motor. The one I have yet to restore is serial number 370596C and came with the 1-1/8 HP Motor as shown in the picture below. I hope to have it restored soon to post here.

The first information I learned about the "C" suffix Mark 5 Goldies came from John when he purchased the one shown restored above.

Here a few pictures of my Shopsmith setup. It is a 510 that got upgraded to a 520 from the mid 80s.
- All bearings are replaced
- All belts replaced
- Motor cleaned and power wires new insulated (of course - new bearings)
- Bolts replaced with black hex bolts
- Quill upgraded to one piece, dual bearing Quill from MKC Tools, runout is 0.01mm (I can not measure less than that)

Same procedure for all SPTs. The Planer has a new stainless steel cover, all bearings in all SPTs are new too.
I added on some points some silicon tape to avoid metal on metal contact.

A few parts are still missing and on order from Shopsmith, but that may take a while until it arrives.

Paint scheme:
(Rustoleum)
Main Blue: Cobalt Blue Metallic
Silver: Silver Metallic
Blue on indicators: Royal Blue
Red on indicators: Cherry red
