Larger bench tubes on early Mk 5's??? Sorry I was thinking lift assist(of which there appear to be 4 versions which I suspect has description issues.(or I simply do not understand at all))
That said I do not understand the MarkV 500 exclusion.
links appear broken to detailed descrriptions.
IIUC your interpretation of the dates is correct.

Re: Serial number lookup
Ya know? It would be a good idea if these new persons coming up with marketing details(model exclusions . . .) can pass their 'understanding' past those here who have the knowledge that they themselves lack(they be taking other's often misconstrued understanding) so as to avoid mistatements and the confusion thereby caused.

Re: Serial number lookup
Wow, Thank you so very much! I am in the process of building a wood working shop and I was thinking that with the 2 SS’s I have, I could use the dual tilt to do just as you mentioned and use the under table shaping if I get that advanced. It would get me a little closer to a Mark 7. The sale price seemed reasonable for the future ability. I had no idea that an increased would allow me to do the under table functions. I had thought about a speed reducer for lathe turning, but have never really looked at the increaser. I may just save my $, and look into the increaser. Its funny, my older unit has been upgraded to the 520 table/fence system and I thought it was the newer unit..Heck, maybe my best upgrade would be to just take my second one up to the 520 fence/table system..
Now if I can figure out how to build an outfeed table that will move up and down when I’m in the Table saw mode, I’ll really be cooking with gas.. I’ve even started considering a stand alone table saw. But I love the craftsmanship of the SS. I even found a saw smith 2000 for sale but I’m not sure about that sliding blade..

Re: Serial number lookup
With the 520 Table and Pro Fence system you have a couple of options for outfeed tables that can move with the setup. The first is shown below and is a modified version of the outfeed table Shopsmith used to sell. The leg has been changed to attach to the bottom of the Table tube. This setup moves not only up and down with the table height but also tilts with the table.
_ .
The Mark V 520 (and the 510) can use the Floating Tables for both infeed and outfeed extensions. Shopsmith sells brackets for direct alignment or you can use them offset without the brackets. The picture below shows the Brackets part number 555997 in use as an infeed table. These two methods do require adjusting the support leg's height with the table height. The more Floating Tables you have the more infeed/outfeed options you have.
_ >
below is the brackets themselves.
_ .
The Sawsmith 2000 does have that sliding blade feature, but the blade does lock in place for regular table saw cuts. The Sawsmith 2000 was made from January 1985 until sometime after November 1993. I don't know exactly when it was discontinued. Parts must be found used for it. There were 4 models varying in the fence and table width.

Re: Serial number lookup
The table attached to the table tube is exactly what I’m looking for!! How does that mount to the rear rail? Does it just sit on the rail? Does anyone have “plans” for this? If not, at least details?
This is exciting!! This would be perfect. I’m looking at buying a 3rd 500 upgraded to 520. With 3 I’m thinking I could put two headstocks on one frame facing opposite sides to run my accessories and keep one set up as a table saw and would have extra tables to use on the saw system. I think that would be a very functional setup.

Re: Serial number lookup
I believe having 2 headstocks on one frame as you describe, you will lose access to the lower drive hub (think jointer). And if you have your table assembly on the right of the right side headstock (depending on which side you’re standing) you will limit the width you can cut on the saw because of the space taken by the second headstock. This also is not a configuration that is easily changed without removing one of the heads if the need arises.lldeman wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 11:08 pm The table attached to the table tube is exactly what I’m looking for!! FWIW, just my thinking…. Steve

Re: Serial number lookup
Think 'long' mini with two headstocks(lower shaft facing towards the ends) and no carriage/table. Operation(power switch) would be on opposite sides(front/back).
Interesting approach.

Re: Serial number lookup
Agreed, a dual accessory setup. Interesting… Wouldn’t this configuration would allow minimal (if any) access or use of the main spindle?
The OP did mention using one as a table saw tho…. Different strokes for different folks. Whatever works

Re: Serial number lookup
lldeman,
The first outfeed Table Extension in my previous post is based off the one Shopsmith sold. In the case of the one in the picture the person made their own brackets to attach it to the 520 Fence Rails. The same can be done for the 510 Fence tubes but the bracket would not be interchangeable between the 520 and 510. Aluminum angle brackets were made along with the tabletop having groves for the Miter to pass into. I believe this one is using a Shopsmith adjustable leg and swivel end attached to a rod that goes up into the end of the Table Post. A rod of the correct length can be used instead of a Shopsmith Adjustable Leg since it is a fixed length. An additional swivel, wall type, end is needed to attach to the bottom of the table.
Below you can see the leg arrangement and how a connector tube holds the bracket to the Fence Rail.
_ .
Below is a closer view of the bracket.
