JPG,

What do you have? Something like one of the GO Flip models running KaiOS? Just curious. Some of the more recent flip phones on the market run AOSP (Android Open Source Project). One of those could get an app to help you block spammers more easily, or possibly implement what Dennis suggested above. If you are running Alcatel's KaiOS (French), you should still be able to individually block each spammer one by one. A pain, but it should work, I believe. Do the following steps below work for you?

From the main menu, select Call Log => select number, and options on bottom right => Call Information => select block on bottom right

You can see the list of numbers you have blocked in Contacts from the main menu

Contacts => options bottom right =>scroll down to settings => Scroll down to
"Block Contacts". This will list all the telephone numbers you are blocking.

Mary is a non-existent entity that has no apparatus for listening. It only can spout words that seem to be from a live person but since no audible input is perceived it only travels down the script. AI my As.....

JPG,

Yeah, I was jesting. When you said the caller ID showed the name Mary, it reminded of an experience that I had working at my first co-op job back in college. The engineer that I was working for always had to place my orders with Newark [electronics] catalog, even though I was fully capable of placing my own orders. The regional sales representative for that area at Newark had a husky, sexy kind of voice, so my boss just had to be the one to make the phone call and place every order with her. Interactions were brief, but he enjoyed every time that he called to place an order. I know your experience with spammers is nothing like that and it is a pain having to deal with spammers...just thought I would lighten the mood as your post reminded of this humorous experience in my early career.

No, caller id displays a 10 digit number. When I say hello, the voice says hello(after a period of silence followed by a 'blip' sound). When I then provide no response(or I say WHY are you saying hello, you called me), 'it' than says are you there? After my continued silence 'it' says Hi I am Mary from . . . . .

I got a call from an autodailer that said "This message is intended to be left on an answering machine. If you are listening to this message on an answering machine, then this ' message has been successful." (Click)

WTF?

Laws requiring telephone marketers/scammers to place phone numbers, upon a person's request, on a "Do Not Call" list is a waste of time . The "letter of the law" requires the marketer/scammer to remove a number from their list upon request. But these marketers have numerous lists, and (my understanding is) they will remove one's number from a list, but then add one's number to one or more other lists, thus conforming to the "letter of the law".

The problem is economic: it pays the phone pests to keep making these robo-calls. For these pestering calls to finally stop, marketers/scammers must be hit in the pocketbook by the phone carriers, but they won't do that until forced by laws, which to date have proven ineffective and/or unenforcable (as when the calls originate internationally.

I remember when "Caller ID" became widely available. It worked well, enabling one to avoid answering any call that had an unrecognized ID - a partial solution. But now only certain carriers offer Caller ID (my carrier does not). Making Caller ID universal might reduce the problem.

Making spoofing impossible might be more effective.

Absolutely agree, but once again, our elected officials do not have the testicular fortitude to do their jobs and make it happen.
