Return policy

Post by spottedmossWW »

Is anyone aware of the policy for returning a shopsmith? Particularly one where it’s new and has had to have parts replaced or serviced three times already?
I’m sick of this thing and how it works, how much play and slop there is everywhere, etc. first it needed new legs (“bench ends”), then it had to be sent in for having the table re-milled because the miter slots were narrower in parts,
It has a power pro 2 headstock which came with a manual that is not for that headstock. Why? Because I guess they don’t make one for that yet. I’ve asked four time to have one sent to me and still nothing. Why do I want a manual for that specific one?
Did you know the unlock code is some arbitrary number from the factory? I didn’t, and it took me two hours of googling till I found an 80 year old man who was doing an upgrade on YouTube.
If anyone knows their return policy, I’d love to utilize it

Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble with your Shopsmith!

Shopsmith themselves generally don't participate here so I think your best bet is to reach out to customer support at the number on this page: https://www.shopsmith.com/warranty-information

If you would like I'll take it off your hands. Just let me know by PM and I'll provide you with a ship to address.

However, Shopsmith is normally pretty good about making this sort of issue right. If it is still in warranty, especially. Contact Customer Service as already suggested.

They have in the past have a 90 day protection plan, where you can return it. Of course you will be charged a shipping fee for returning it even though the machine was defective when you received it. They will try to make everything right but, there should not be many things wrong when it ships at a cost of $5295, plus shipping. The pricing keeps increasing and quality does not increase. I know many people love Shopsmith since they are still around after about 70 years. But other than the headstock change the machine has not changed much in the last 50 years, while the pricing has tripled or more. The promotions are a sham, Prices go up a few weeks before "promotions" happen. Your money is also used for weeks before your product arrives. The Powerpro is touted as new technology even though it is the about the same product that arrived about 10 years ago.
Good luck with your return.
