A 10ER with speed changer/Not close to Home

Well I am going after another one in the morning.

This one has a Story also.
A very similar story of most of the ones I have picked up.
It belonged to the owners Grandpa that bought it new.
He (the Grandson) is selling it because he always thought that he would someday use it,
And it has just sat in his garage, and he has decided to let it go.

Well after a long drive to the middle of Ky.

I had a Great conversation with The Grandson that watched his Grandpa use this machine.

This was no doubt my Best purchase yet in my Shop-Smith journey.


I had a great time talking with the Grandson that let this go.
I had a tour of the other stuff in the shop .
I have collected a lot of the same stuff.

I just picked one of the same models up yesterday. Other than a little saw dust, it looks very nice and neat. I see that the base it's sitting on looks like the one yours is on, which I guess is how they were shipped. I thought that maybe the person who I got it from built the base. Thats pretty neat history!

We found some belts and the paperwork and a Speed changer calculator.

The manual is it ruff shape.

I am working on getting it put in a binder.

Louisville.
From the paperwork and the chisels his Grandpa probably bought it from Mongomery- Ward.
He said it had been listed on FB MP for about 6 months.

I hope you got it for a reasonable price. The extra Speed Changer Belt 4L260 is longer that the more common 4L250 and appears to be longer than it should be if the one currently on the Speed Changer is the same 4l260 size. That would be the reason the Motor is hanging so low below the Headstock.

Looks like you got another non-Shopsmith Miter with this Model 10ER. It is an interesting I-bolt used on the Base.

The Shopsmith Model 10E and 10ER was shipped without a bench. It was up to the owner to make one for it. The blueprint for the Bench GetterDone shows is one of two versions provided by Magna Engineering Corporation as a suggestion for a Bench. Below is a picture of one of those Bench suggestions I made for my Model 10E's.

It is slightly different in the legs than the one GetterDone shows the blueprint of which is the other version. Once Magna Engineering Corporation introduced the Metal Bench Ends Model 10's were more commonly put on that type of bench. A Model 10ER on the Bench with Metal Bench Ends is below.

I got it for about the Price a Speed changer goes for.
With the Information you and JPG gave me about the belts .
I noticed that that Motor was Almost touching the Table.

After spending time with his Grandson and having a Great conversation.
I think He just was using what would work to get it done.
The Original owner was very Organized.
He had lots of cabinets and shelfs to keep things in place.

The non-Shopsmith Miter I think goes with a Table saw that was in this shop.
There was also a fence that I acquired that probably goes with that table saw.

The I-Bolt has a part number on it.

They are probably not SS stuff although very cool and will have to be incorporated in the restoration.

Thanks to figgs19720 posting I stumbed across your Thread about these 10ER's.

I will have to read thru that thread soon.
