Shopsmith Response RE: Teknatool North America Announcement

Post by ElizabethShopsmith »

Hello, All!

I just wanted to pop in to provide an important update on the recent news regarding Teknatool NA. As some of you may have heard, on Monday of this week Teknatool North America announced to their partners that they were entering into Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection. This news has led some of you to reach out with concerns about the availability of our motors and electronic components.

While it's true that Teknatool North America is seeking bankruptcy protection, our motors and electronic components are sourced through Teknatool International. They have provided assurances that their operations will not be affected by this action and they remain committed to processing orders in a timely manner. We do not anticipate any impact to the availability of motors or electronic components because of this development.

If you have questions specifically related to this announcement, please respond in the comments and I will try my best to reply in a timely manner.

Thanks for your continued support, it means the world to us!

Actually I was sorta celebrating the potential need to return to legacy support.

This is good news.

It also highlights the potential problem of a key component being available only from a single supplier.

+1

Same here and I wish legacy was still supported like before...don't get me wrong, I am happy for those who own a PowerPro that they may continue to receive support on that platform. Personally I am NOT happy with the specs and feature set of the PowerPro, nor the price point. On the latter, I do wonder how the potential folding of Teknatool USA might affect, or not, import costs for bringing that platform into the States. May be a false assumption, but the new tariffs and threat of tariffs the past few months might have had some impact in them choosing to declare Chapter 11. So, I wonder if the PowerPro cost, as well as PowerPro replacement part costs will remain about the same or change with this latest development?

With this Assurance of moving forward.

This makes me happy that the Company is on Board with the Shop Smith Addicts.
I have been thinking about small Job shops supplying parts to Shopsmith.

This can open options for Shopsmith.

I have a CNC mill that I am in the works of retrofitting to today's technology.

I already plan to make Brackets and stuff for my machine/Setup.

I hope Shopsmith has reached out to job shops to keep this Addiction alive. :D

Thanks for the clarification, Elisabeth. I still suggest that y’all keep the mechanical headstock in rotation, just to be safe.
