10ER compatibility with nova 12” Cole jaws

Hey all,
I’m the owner of a shopsmith 10er. I currently have a Nova G3 chuck. I am considering buying a set of the 12” Cole jaws for the Nova chuck. I’m not sure that the 10er will be able to accommodate them. Online, the 12” Cole jaws state they require a lathe with a 16 in swing. The 10er’s swing is 15 inches. I’m wondering if anyone has the 12” jaws, and has used them on a 10er? Are they actually too large when open? Or is it feasible to use them?

Teknatool's site says these require a 14" swing, which seems more reasonable for a 12" capacity. However there is also some conflicting information regarding chuck compatibility. (https://www.teknatool.com/products/nova ... -large-12/) That contains: "Fits on Standard NOVA Chucks" AND " Due to sizing, only the SuperNOVA2 and Titan chucks are compatible with these jaws."

Thanks for your reply! The 14in swing does seem more reasonable. Reading into it, it looks like Nova recommends only using “large” accessories on “large” chucks. So they only recommend putting the 12in Cole jaws on the larger chucks (supernova or titan).

I think I’m going to spring for the Cole jaws, and keep my fingers crossed that they work

This tickled a memory, and after a bit of searching, I think that Ed Reible identified the Nova compatibility issue in this thread. At the very end of the thread, it turns out that the T-handle of the chuck wrench that comes with the Nova G3 barely clears the OD of the 10” Cole jaws, and would be unusable with the larger Cole jaws.
