Sawsmith 2000 broken fence

Post by paulcole33 »

Hi all!
Long time listener, first time caller...😂. I just bought a Sawsmith 2000 for an unbelievable price! Everything works except the aluminum triangle part, by the handle of the fence, is badly bent. Owner went overseas, had people rent his place, came back and found it this way. Cuts are slightly off and it is difficult to slide up and down the rails. I didn't know if i had to buy a new fence, can I buy just that part, or should i upgrade the fence to something else? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Paul

First welcome to the forum. I deleted our conversation on Facebook since my fence would not work. A picture would help as the broken part may be the same part used on other fences and just maybe could be salvaged that way.

The Sawsmith 2000 Table Saw was made in the 1990's and had 4 models. The Standard and Pro Models used a fence rail like the Mark V 510/505 with round tubes. The Deluxe and Ultra Models had a different Fence System. The tables of the Sawsmith 2000 are deeper front to back than the Mark V's. That makes the Fences longer than those of the Mark V's. Below is a picture of the Standard and Pro Model type of fence system.

Since it uses what looks like the Mark V 510/505 Fence System some Mark parts may work for it as replacements. The Fence Extrusion and the Fence Lock Rod themselves would not be interchangeable due to the longer length of the Sawsmith 2000 Fence. Hopefully someone here on the Forum that has one can confirm that.

The picture below is the Deluxe and Ultra type of Fence System.

As you can see from the picture above the that Fence System is different from the Mark Fence Systems.

Since the Sawsmith 2000 Table Saw has been out of production for so long no replacements parts are available for it unless it is a part that is used on a current Mark Model too.

As RobertTaylor said,
A picture would help as the broken part may be the same part used on other fences and just maybe could be salvaged that way.

I have an extra fence like the first photo in Russ's post above. If that's the type you have you can PM me and you can have the whole thing or just parts you need.

Not sure what part you're talking about. If your fence is like the second photo you may have a hard time finding a replacement. Excalibur, the company that made them is no longer in business. I have seen Excalibur fences sold on Craig's List and eBay. If you just need parts for the handle I think they're all the same no matter the length of the fence.
