Miter bars

Post by propwash »

After a bunch of years I've decided to build a cross cut sled. My SS is a 1984 Mark 500. I've tried a Microjig system but as we all know the SS slots are not standard to the rest of the world's table saws. My next thought is cutting to size some UHMW to fit, or buy a miter bar replacement from SS.
Ideas????
Thanks
Danny

I would opt for the SS miter bar since it is more dimensiionally table.

There is a Miter Bar specifically for the Crosscut Sled. It is, if I remember correctly, longer than the bar of the Miter itself. It is what I used to make my Crosscut Sled. Although it comes with the "T" Slot Washer just like the newer Miters that washer can be removed for Mark V 500 original Table System use.

Look for,

The t-slot washer can be removed(or modified to allow using on either type slot(flatten opposing sides).

I suggest that if you are making a cross cut sled "make it". .This way you can make "mill" the miter bar to fit the miter slot. The SS miter bar allows some wiggle room that I find unwanted.
