I have been handed down my dad’s old shopsmith and I’m wanting to gather as much information about it as possible. Including if parts are still available and owners manuals can be found. Plate says it’s a Modle 10ER S#76240

Other forum members who actually own or have restored a 10E or 10ER will no doubt respond soon.

Under the Maintenance and Repair Forum, the first four (4) threads at the top ("stickies') are full of information you are seeking. Some will be more specific to a 10E/10ER, but all will serve as a good intoduction to all things Shopsmith. Inside of the thread started by Everett Davis you will find access to his Google Drive, with specific info to 10E and 10ER, including restored Owner's Manuals.

As for parts, E-bay is thy friend. No unique model 10... parts are available from SS. Word of caution: there have been several subtle design changes over the production runs of model 10 AND 10ER, so careful matching is necessary. If you need help with that it IS available here.

I have restored 24 Model 10's and currently have 3 waiting to be finished.

Let me expand on what has already been said. Your Shopsmith Model 10ER serial number 76240 is a later Model 10. As JPG said there were many changes made to the Model 10's from their beginning as the Model 10E in 1947 until the end of production of the Model 10ER in 1953. Other than common hardware (such as the many Set Screws) which can be purchased new, it used only three parts that are still used on Shopsmith Mark tools today. That is the Quill Return Spring, the Quill rubber Bumper and the Way Tubes on the last made Model 10ER having the thinner walled tubes. Yours should still have the thicker walled Way Tubes.

Your Model 10ER was likely made in late 1952 or early 1953. As br549 suggested you will want the Model 10ER Owner's Guide from Everetts Google Drive for you Model 10ER. It will show the parts that are closest to yours in the parts lists and drawings.

Below is a Model 10ER serial number 76928 that I restored that is the closest to yours. It has everything that was included when first purchased plus some extra accessories. It is on a bench I made for it.

The extras include a Speed Changer, the Jig Saw with the Table Insert, the Jointer Shaper Fence, Jointer Cutter Head, Sanding Drum, Lathe Chisels and a smaller non Shopsmith sanding disk (on the Extension Table).

Cool, sounds like you're on the right track. The Model 10ER is a bit of a gem, but parts can be found through eBay or Shopsmith directly.

Something to know about the Shopsmith Model 10E and 10ER is they have the same size Quill Diameter and the same size 5/8" Reverse Tapered Spindle end as the Mark V models and current Mark 7. What this means for you is some current attachments that go on either the Quill end or the Spindle like the Lathe Drive can be used on your Model 10ER. As noted below I have two restored and working 1947 original Model 10E tools and a Mark 7. I can use the Lathe Drive form one of these Model 10E's on my Mark 7 and conversely use a new Lathe Drive on any of my Model 10's.

One of my favorite Mark 5/V 500 accessories I use on my Model 10's is the Upper and Lower Saw Blade Guard set part numbers 505627 and 505628. The Mark 5/V 500 Lower Saw Blade Guard can be used with the Model 10 Upper Saw Blade Guard too. Very few Model 10's have the Lower Saw Blade Guard made for it as it was an optional accessory not often purchased. Below is the Mark 5/V 500 Guard set on my Model 10ER. Yes the saw blade is mounted backwards but it shows the Shopsmith name on it that way.

Below is the Mark 5/V 500 Lower Saw Blade Guard mounted on my Model 10ER. The Lower Guard clamps to the Quill.

It is that specific Upper and Lower Saw Blade Guard set that works on the Model 10's. There were other Mark 5/V 500 Saw Blade Guard set made over the years that are not a good option for the Model 10's. Even though the Mark 5/V 500 Saw Blade Guard set has a 10" Saw Blade capacity Saw Blades no larger than 8" should be used on the Model 10's. I wanted to also mention that this Saw Blade Guard set was discontinued long age but can easily be found on the used market. A word of caution if getting the Upper Guard is to be sure it has the part called the "Shoe" that is circled in red in the picture below. It is a common part I see missing when the Guards are for sale. The Upper Guard is worthless without the Shoe as it lifts the guard up over the material being cut. The picture below shows all the parts that come with a complete Upper and Lower Saw Blade Guard set. The post partially shown at the bottom of the Lower Guard is for aligning it with the post against the rear Way Tube on the Mark 5/V 500. It is not the same spacing on a Model 10.

A plus using this Lower Saw Blade Guard on a Model 10 is adding a 2-1/2" Saw Dust Port for dust collection. The original Model 10 Lower Saw Blade Guard has a square dust port.

When the Mark 5 was introduced in 1954 they didn't want to forget about all the Owners who had purchased the Model 10E and 10ER. With the introduction of the Mark 5 came a new way of adding what became the SPTs. Those Add-A-Tools (SPTs) as they were originally called, came out between 1954 and 1956. Special Brackets were made for the Model 10's to be able to use the Jig Saw, Jointer, Belt Sander, Bandsaw and compressor. The drawing below shows the parts of the second Power Mount Adapter Kit. Originally the "A" Adapter was the only part available and used for the Jig Saw. The Jointer, Model 4E began in 1953 with the Model 10ER and a special Headrest Mounting was provided for it. As the Mark 5 was being released the Jointer became the Model 620 with Mounting Posts added but could still use the special Headrest Mount. When the second Power Mount Adapter Kit came out the special Jointer Headrest Mount was discontinued.

The Shaper Fence shown below for the Mark 5 in the 1950's and continuing for the original Mark 5/V 500 Table system actually came out before the Mark 5 in 1954. It was designed to also fit the Model 10's and it's first instructions show it on a Model 10ER. Below it is seen on my Model 10ER.

When looking at accessory catalogs in the 1950's after the Mark 5 came out you will see designations for items being for the Mark 5, Model 10s or both.
