Band Saw Adapter to 4" Vac

Post by bainin »

I have always been annoyed that my 4" dust collector tube requires reduction to 2" for the Shopsmith Accessories. Not that i think this is limiting
the dust collection, but I didn't like needing 4" to 2" adaption .

I figured I'd start with the easy one and convert the bandsaw adapter to 4" . My kid recently upgraded his 3D printing capabilities and I took advantage.

Heres the new adapter compared to the existing 2" port opening. Printing has come a long way..adapter is solid and a nice texture has been added.
He will be adjusting the screw holes and added a slightly smaller diameter to the hose mounting section.

Sketch of how big the adapter will be..i chose to use at least one of the existing screw holes from the 2" .

I haven't had time yet to run the saw and see if collection is improved/reduced or no change.
Will report back once I have tried.

I finally had some time to run the bandsaw with the new 4" adapter.
This is after a weekend of on and off use , not heavy use but typical of my work loads.

I think the 4" adapter is doing a much better job than was the 2" adapter which showed alot more accumulation in the nooks and crannies.

The last thing I want to do is place a toothbrush or similar to rub against the wheel and flake off any dust particles that adhere to the rubber.

For anyone considering the 4" vacuum adaption to the bandsaw, the kiddo tells me he would be willing to print these adapters for $35 plus SH.

Looks good! Have you done something similar to make the lower saw guard 4" ? I am contemplating getting a 3D printed lower saw guard from Doug for my Mark V. Just curious if you have done a 4" conversion on your lower saw guard and what you did. Thanks.

Hey RFGuy - I am contemplating for the lower saw guard and the jointer as well.

I'd like to be off the 2" adapter everywhere if its possible, though Im not sure all of these will be possible.

I hadn't seen that video from Scott-thanks for the link !

Thanks. Scott posted the contact details for Doug (see below). I got his catalog and I am trying to figure out which 3D printed products I want to buy from him.
