I rechecked the Parts Diagram and List from 3/74 and no spacer shown nor is it listed in the parts list. A section of that Parts Diagram is shown below.

Could it be that because it was included on the Mark VII in the 1960's they added it to Mark 5's made then but later stopped using it for some reason only to later include it again? I don't know if it is on my 1961 Goldie or not. I haven't started restoring it yet and it is not anywhere near the top of the restoration list.
