Mark V replacement pinion gears

Post by Mountainroads »

I’ve been using my mark five for a bit but the table gears never worked so I finally took it apart to see that the pinion gears are stripped and broken. And I’ve been looking for replacements but have had no luck online so I was wondering if anyone else had any idea where I could get some?

Mountainroads,

Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum.

There are two versions of those gears. The ones JPG provided the link to from here on the Shopsmith website are the Carriage Pinion (for MARK 7/MARK V 520,510,505/MARK 4) part number 514211 and are not for the Mark 5 or Mark V500 with the original Table System. Those for the Mark 5/V 500 would be part number 501392 and are no longer available new from the factory. If yours are like the ones below (also damaged) they are for the Mark 5/V 500 and they would have to be found used.

If yours look like the one below for the Mark V 510/505, 520, Mark 7 or Mark 4 order them from Shopsmith.

There are two different Carriages used for the different Mark V models and two different Carriage Pinions.

JPG,

I still learn things from you and others here and it is what I love about this Forum.

Mountainroads,

I hope this information is helpful for you to get the correct Carriage Pinion for your Mark V. I had a Mark V I restored with the Pinions shown in my last post.

For anyone I like to warn against is using the Main Table as a work bench especially "hammering" thing on it. It is likely what happened to your Mark V before you got it.

If you have any other questions about your Shopsmith feel free to ask.
