Serial Numbers
I'm brand new to the forum, so forgive me if this has been talked about. I'm getting my first shopsmith on Saturday. I'm trying to figure out what year it is. I looked on the website at the serial numbers and mine doesn't match. This is what I'm told the serial number of my Shopsmith.
374178
Can anyone tell me what year this was manufactured. Thank you in advance, I look forward to benefit and contribute to the betterment of this forum.

It doesn't appear to me to be a valid Shopsmith, Inc serial number. You say you have been told 374178. I think it best to wait until you can see the number for yourself.tmillie wrote:I'm brand new to the forum, so forgive me if this has been talked about. I'm getting my first shopsmith on Saturday. The closest number to 374178 is 373422 which was built in Dec 1961. Following this date was a period of time when no machines were being developed. This is when Shopsmith, Inc came into being (1972). The data doesn't seem to tie together real well.

Dusty Dusty Dusty . . . SS WERE produced after the 1961 date( up to 1967). The records got lost somewhere/time. My 1963 Goldie is 377425 and I have encounter units with SN larger.dusty wrote:It doesn't appear to me to be a valid Shopsmith, Inc serial number. You say you have been told 374178. The out of production period was from 1967/8 to 1972.
