Lost drawer making video

Post by Gene Howe »

Several weeks ago, I saved a video to a hard drive that recently crashed. If the following description rings a bell, I'd appreciate help in finding it again.

First, I THINK it might have been on a mag. site. Maybe Youtube...not sure.

The demonstrator used his two outside dado blades to cut a 1/4X1/4 (IIRC)
dado on the ends of his drawer sides and/or fronts. The ingeniousness of this method was that he didn't have to ever change the setting on his fence or change the depth of his cut. Again, IIRC, he used a 1/4 shim or spacer against the fence for one of the cuts. I think, he even used the same setup for the bottom groove.

If anyone remembers seeing this video and can give me a link, I'd be eternally grateful.

Thanks for your help.

This is the infamous 1/4" Dado, 1/4' offset setup. It is demonstrated in many books, many videos, many how-to's. Unfortunately I don't have anything handy to show you but I think it is even in the Power Tool Wood Working is for Everyone book.

Sorry. I was so excited that I found it that I forgot. I guess this method has been around for ages. I know the joint has been. When I first saw it, it was like a light went on. I really need to be shown.:D

Thanks, PKNI. I think I'll use this method when I make the Apothecary Cabinet -- which has just a few drawers.
