planning joints

Not that I have ever done this mind you, but just in case! I make lots of notes on my plans. I also keep a clip board for notes, reminders ect. Any plan I own or draw up looks like a scratch pad!

Lately, I have slowly begin to use story sticks as I misplace all my rulers most days and I find the story stick is hard to misplace and easy to find. Plus I do not misread the numbers on my rulers when using the story stick. Really a great way to do time honored work.

This morning my bride agreed to help me cut two pieces of 3/4" Oak plywood so I could make a moving dolly. When younger I always cut each piece to final dimensions then moved on to another piece even if they were to be identical. Now if making multiple pieces that will be identical I set up for one cut and do it on all similar pieces then set up for the next cut and do all pieces. When I finished both pieces and laid one on top of the other she noted they were identical. I was pleased she did not point out How many times in the past I messed up projects with the system of my younger days. Fjimp:D

If you all remember David Marks always used floating tenons on most of his works. I have used them on some cradles I have made for the girls and they are very strong. Seem pretty easy to make the joints and the tenons for them. Also Bill was talking about story sticks and David used them a lot along with patterns. My grandpa used story sticks and I used them on a few projects. CAn see a good use for them on certain projects.
