Shadow scroll saw sculpture

Post by wildcard »

If you havent seen shadow sculpture artwork yet, go ahead and google it, then come back.

first off has anyone done this? If so how?

I have an idea that probably will work, but if someone has actually done it i am all ears.

Start with a line drawing of something you want to make, and invert it so the part that is the lines will be where the light will shine through on the shadow, then of the remaining shadow areas, chop them all up into smaller shapes kinda like a puzzle, you can even make some smaller and larger and simpley move then forward or back on the art, basically you dont want anyone to know what they actually are. Once you are done with all of that, print it and scrollsaw it, then get a cheap light source, and put the parts together in the correct way, all you have to do now is find the right angle, and distance with the light and you can build a base for it that includes a light.

this i think would make a really good gift or something, i am going to try one, but i wanted to first see if anyone else has already done it.

Thanks, wildcard!

That is some interesting art! I wish you good luck with your efforts. BTW, I had never heard of it before your post.
