Man, is my wife mad...

Post by chettrick »

For the second time my wife ordered me something for my birthday. She created an account under her own name and I already have my own account. She ordered it and when it did not ship (backorder) like everything else. She could not track it.

It was placed under my account and charged to my credit card, without my permission or knowledge. I had ordered two items and when I looked for tracking, it was backordered (like everything else). I saw two items listed thinking it was a separate order for each of my two items. Turns out one of them was the thing she ordered. And it is the one getting shipped, not my stuff.

How much more screwed up is SS going to get before they go completely under?

Screwed up? Shopsmith? I'm not sure who it is that doesn't have all the parts glued in the right place.

How do you think Shopsmith managed to tie your name and your wife's name to the same charge card number? When your wife ordered, did she pay cash or did she give them a charge card number? Hmmmm, Yup, That's It, All Screwed Up!

I'm afraid you've come to the wrong place for support with this train of thought.

The general experience with people on this site has been that calling customer service is the best way to resolve problems with orders. To my knowledge, most of the people who were upset about something but hadn't called ShopSmith customer service were much happier after the call.

Sorry you had a bad experience, but at least in this forum, we're aware that ShopSmith is dealing with a bad economy, replacing suppliers that have gone out of business, significant reduction in staffing and even structural changes in the woodworking hobby/industry.

And, if the introduction of new products (Incra 120 miter gauge, pending release of the PowerPro headstock) are any indication, ShopSmith may be getting better footing. You don't negotiate new products from a position of weakness.

If you haven't called customer service, please give them a ring and give them the opportunity to resolve your issues.

All the best,

Jim

I'm with Jim. I've been to the plant in Dayton and have met the folks in customer service. You can't find more helpful and knowledgeable people.

If you want a real exercise in frustration call the help number for many other large companies, and talk to their call centers based in India.

Chettrick,

I've had similar results. Shopsmith has taken it upon themselves to change prices on items I've ordered and illegally helped themselves to my credit card to pay for them. Unfortunately, it seems to be nothing new with Shopsmith.

Equally unfortunately, it is effectively illegal to mention this on this forum. Here, the emperors new suit is always a stunning work of art, impecible and beautiful to behold. None will ever notice what the emperor is really not wearing.

Yes, I have had Shopsmith change prices without notifying me before hand, to get my explicit approval.

But every time that has happened, the price went down. Can you believe that. What gall.

Curious to know if you refused and returned the merchandise that they up'd the price on without your consent? That is your best option if you haven't thought of that.

I've been dealing with Shopsmith since '83 and I've never experienced a price increase on any order that I've placed. On a couple of occasions they have even given me the "sale" price a day or so after the expiration date.

With a certain amount of attention to civility and courtesy, all comments, positive and negative, are acceptable on this forum. However, the "Emperior's new suit" comments are probably a little over the top.
