Wooden Book Jacket

Post by nuhobby »

Hi,

This thread is fine if it wanders "off subject"!

There is an article in one of the newer American Woodworker mag's about fake wooden books. I liked the idea but wanted an actual book-holder. I had some small re-sawn walnut pieces; small enough that I used a hand-plane rather than my jointer to prepare them for edge-gluing. That's the "bookmatched" "covers" of the "book," quote-unquote. The rest is built-up almost without any prior planning. I just made sure to match grain direction in all the various laminated pieces so the thing wouldn't explode with humidity changes in the future.

By the way, I found out the hard way that the Hole-Plug Cutter does have a significant taper. If you pound the plugs too hard, they will split the hole. Luckily I just glued it back together with greater caution applying my maple plugs. The longest holes, I put regular dowels in, then faced them with my nicer maple plugs.

happy woodkworking!
