Would it help if I said it is the one with 5124 members now?

Then maybe this would help:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SSusers/

Of course as of now they have only added 1 member and we have added 7...

From this it looks like it will be a lot sooner then my guess. Of course this was data we didn't have 4 days ago...

Oh shoot.....I just thought of something that screws up my model. I was assuming how long it would take to reach the number 5123 of the yahoo group BUT I didn't consider that fact that their membership is growing also..... . I'll get BACK to you on THAT model......gotta go crunch some numbers....
OK.....my new model has the SS group overtaking the yahoo forum group on.......11-15-09 8:32pm (jpg's birthday) with member count at 5136. :D

I left that list about mid 2007 when the then list owner complained bitterly off list about me talking about working on my "old junk" because he wanted the list to only be about woodworking using Shopsmiths. I was told that "good" members were leaving the list in droves because they had no interest in working on "old crap"... Sort of made feel a little unwelcome.
I generally liked email list better than forums back then because I could not have broadband and the forums were too slow on dial-up. I renamed a local Shopsmith list I owned on Yahoo to SS_Owners and got my SS fix there until I got broadband and started posting here more. That SS_Owners list is fairly small and quiet (about 180 members). Nice bunch of folks. I really need to post more there. I do, BTW allow selling of Shopsmith stuff there (shhh).
The point here is that a former moderator of the SSusers at that time told me that the membership numbers were totally inaccurate and much lower than reflected at the home page. That person never gave me any other incorrect information so I have no reason the question what he told me.
I have not been back to that list but have been told that it is under different ownership now and is less hostile to people that like to talk about working on older stuff.

We may catch up to the SS group sooner. There is only a 31 member difference today. They actually have 1 less member today than they had yesterday!!!! (wonder how THAT happens??) We gained 11 since same time yesterday

I just went to that list homepage and was surprised at how low the message counts have been this year...
I have lists with a couple of hundred members that are more active than that. How does a list that big get that quiet. Anybody have an idea what the problem is there now?
I see that the list description is unchanged which makes me think that they may still not want to hear about my old stuff...

What list are you talking about, Francis? Are you referring to the list of Currently Active Members?

I notice regularly that while the number of members is increasing dramatically, the number of members logged in at any given time is not that much greater.

Example: Right now there are 30 members logged in; that is .59% of the membership.

PS Another interesting (puzzling) statistic to watch is the number of members versus the number of guests. It is my observation that there are as many guests who have not registered as there are registered guests. Right now there are 32 members and 28 guests.

Remember members who are not logged in appear as guests...

Think he means the yahoo list dusty. It shows posts per month table toward the bottom.
