I have inquired on eBay and found the proper #10-32 screws here:

That is, 1/2 of the length is smooth and 1/2 of the length is threaded.
If anyone is ultra-cheap, FYI, I got a 100-pack of #10-24 screws (also 2-1/2" long & half-smooth/half-threaded) which worked very nicely for me last night. I have about 98 of those screws left which should be several lifetimes' worth. Drop me a PM if you'd like some.
