What to cut it with?

Post by beeg »

I'm building a TomK's plan easel for the granddaughter. I've found where I can buy the roll paper for it. BUT it's twice as long as I need it. WHAT wood ya use to cut a paper roll?

It's a roll 48" wide, 200 ft long and 50 lbs.

Never done this but I think I would wrap masking tape around the cut point and use a fine tooth hacksaw

I've cut thermal paper rolls with a bandsaw. The edge was a bit ragged, but it works. I like the "masking tape around the cut line" idea, wish I would have thought of it.

I would vary the above suggestions just a little. After marking the cut line on the roll of paper, I would wrap the roll at the cut point with clear packaging tape. Center the cut line on the tap, using 1.5 or 2 inch tape. The tape will hold the paper firm on both sides of the cut, and the tape lubricates the bandsaw blade. Technique used often with stacked scroll saw work.

Thanks for the reply's.
But I went the EASY WAY. I wanted to buy local, but went and searched on the internet and found a supplier of a shorter length.
