i finally got around to plumbing my dust collector to my shop. tired of hooking up to whatever operation i was doing at that time. i built nick's octopus first. but the big ? was did i really want to spend 18.97 on ss blast gates pt. # 555469 . it would have taken 6 of them. best thing about working with wood was. with a lil imagination u can create ur own at lil or no cost. a couple pic's to show what i came up with.when i close off the system got a pretty seal very lil air escape . all i got to do is pull a gate and there u go . no more hooking up hose, plus hoses are up and out of the way. safety first

I ran a 2in. pvc line over from my miter saw added a tee to pick up the cuttings from my mk v . what i did was cut 2 peices 3 1/2 x 6 in . then cut 2 parts 5/16thsx 6 in. and a gate 1/4x 2 in.x5in. i glued it together and a couple staples . fine tuned my gates on the disc sander made it snug. but not so snug u can't pull it out. i moved my dc 33 00 out of shop to a room of it's own . system running great. hagreat day be safe jim

Wow,
That is great I never thought about makeing my own gates. You have a great idea there. Question is that all 2 1/2' hose that you used? And what size is the PVC pipe?

the pvc i used was 2 in. i used what i had on hand. yes the hoses i used is what came with my dc 3300. i had to bite the bullet went to home depot bought 2 more hoses still saved 10 dollars apiece on the hoses.i am not a cheap skate but i like to save every dime i can. when i buy from shopsmith it's because i can't find it elsewhere . and i do ask them if it is available before i buy. hag1 jim

OOPS never meant it to sound like you were cheap sorry if I made it sound that way. I am very froogle these days also. I don't have my high paying job anymore and am living on a very modest income now so every penny counts. I was just curious about what your pictures where showing. I has a 10 foot stick of 4in pvc that I am going to use in my shop soon. I love your idea of the diy.

no kd u didn't say nothing wrong just have a bug under my collar about shopsmith. i know times r hard for them. i wanted to make a sizable purchase but was told that what i wanted would be backordered and they had no clue when i would receive them. then i went ahead and purchased the mortising package roughly 160 dollars. what really got me was i paid that much for something made in TAIWAN. geez i'm sitting on them for the moment but figure i best return them . i can remember a time when buying shopsmith meant quality. even in hard time TAIWAN doesn't mean quality.are we to see more substandard equipment coming from shopsmith in the future.i would love to support shopsmith but don't ask me to buy chinese or taiwan. thank goodness i can find the quality shopsmith use to be on e- bay . hag1 jim
