I posted this on the Sanforized thread an realized that you might not catch it there.
I had a rare thought. How about using HDO....or, MDO? Since it's a ply core, it should be considerably lighter than MDF. And, still cheaper than UHMW. A 3/4X4X8 sheet is about $70.
1/2", is cheaper and lighter, of course.
You'd find HDO/MDO at a concrete supply place. Maybe HD or LOWES, too???

Does anyone know what homasote is. My brother thought that might work but I've never heard of it.
