Motor came
My motor just got in. I am almost ready to wire it in, just as soon as the paint on the motor bracket is dry. I think I am going to wire a 50' 3-prong cord on it. I really want this thing to be grounded ( when the original motor went bad, the whole machine became electrified- SHOCKING to say the least) I might pick up a new toggle switch also, as my switch is 60 years old and I don't care for the way Shopsmith ran both the hot and neutral through the switch.

Not a very good picture- The ways look rusty on the headrest side. They are not- must be a reflection

If your into some light, noncontroversial reading regarding ER grounding, go to post 394of my ER thread and start reading from there. It ends at post #415.mark-b wrote:My motor just got in. when these machines were new, lots of people did not have 3-pronged receptacles. by breaking both the white and the black lines at the switch, they made sure that the hot wire was always switched off by the switch. cheater plugs of that era had the same size male plugs for both hot and neutral and it was 50/50 whether they were plugged into the socket the "right" way. the DPST switch was a good safety feature.mark-b wrote:I might pick up a new toggle switch also, as my switch is 60 years old and I don't care for the way Shopsmith ran both the hot and neutral through the switch.
