A few months ago - some One-Way Chucks and Teknatool Nova2 chucks were on sale and I got the Nova2.
I turned a couple of wine goblets with it, and then cut some rings out of a poplar board and turned a small bowl - unfortunately, poplar is a little soft and it was too easy to cut right through the bowl.
Then I saw a picture of a segmented bowl, googled "Segmented Bowls", and started the fun part.
Just finished polishing the first one -- Wow! I realize that it is probably very amaturish, but I got a lot of scrap pieces, and I think I'll be practicing a lot.
Once I make a Cole Chuck, to hold the rim of the bowl, I can clean up the bottom and seal it.
There is a treasure trove of info out there about turning bowls, along with the massive amount of info from these forums.
What a great way to make a sellable product from scrap - so I can buy more wood to make project and generate more scrap ---- Hey wait a minute - I'm supposed to be retiring here!

GOOD looking bowl ya have there. MUCH prettier than the scraps. 
SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders,molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.

scrap wood???
i agree with mickyd. not many scrap pieces of wood here. just many pieces of small unused stock. with making pens there is not much that cannot be used. my unusable pieces of wood fit in a bucket under the bandsaw. and with getting into casting resin pen blanks you can use pieces that you would never imagine.
