Need measurement of distance between table top and center of spindle

Hi,

I'm looking for the dimension from the main table top when setting in its lowest position and locked to the center of the main spindle.

I'd like a small sample from various machines and from different models. It need only be to the nearest 1/16".

I used a small combo square sitting on the table and read to the center of the shaft on my 520 and it read 2-3/16".

So if a few of you have a few moments while in the shop could you get me that distance and note which machine it came from?

Hi Ed,

My 1995 510 measures 2-3/16". It sure was a lot of work getting that for you! I had to get off my a** and go downstairs, raise the table up and slide it over, remove the blade and lower saw guard, set them aside, lower the table and slide it over to the headstock, lock it in place, get my tape out and measure. Whew! Am I exhausted! All that and it was no different then yours.

Mark 5 (Goldie/poly-v) 2 1/2" I am guessing the early Goldies(Gilmer) and Greenies are the same as well as later Mark 5 and early Mark V(pre 505).

Sorry Tim but I got a report that you were loafing around and needed something to get up and busy for a few moments... this was the only thing I could think of to do that....

Thanks one and all for quick responses, I was hoping that most machines would be about the same in the family groupings. The only thing that I could think of that might make that different was things like shimming to get the table "level" or perhaps some other feature that I'm not aware of.

I have a 500 but it is minus the headstock right now, that was a bit more then I wanted to tackle at the moment for a measurement.

Looks like the 10ER is clearly the winner so far, that is if the maximum distance is the criteria for wining.

I'm designing something and wanted to make sure it would fit any of the shopsmith machines should someone else want to build it. At this point the 5++ machines would be the most critical for a fit.

Hoping to hear from a MII and MVII owner(s) too.

I hope to be in the shop some today and I will try to remember to look. I didn't make it to the shop yesterday at all. Without getting too graphic, I needed to be near a bathroom yesterday. The bathroom is in the house. The shop is 400 feet away and the space between is all knee deep snow drifts...
It just wasn't worth the risk.

I needed to be near a bathroom yesterday. The bathroom is in the house. The shop is 400 feet away and the space between is all knee deep snow drifts...
It just wasn't worth the risk.

Sounds like it is time to remodel the shop and add a bathroom.
