Pennview. I made the "apples and oranges" comment. So I'll try to explain. You compared a HF WITH a winn filter to a DC3300 with a standard filter. Add the 42" filter to the DC3300. It also traps down to one micron.
SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders, molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop. .
.

I guess it's all in the fine print. Down to 1 micron as the cake builds up and the particles that are trapped get smaller with the Shopsmith vs. the Wynn with 99.995% efficient at 1.0 micron and above. You can also get a Wynn these days that traps particles to .2 microns.
Perhaps the comparison was between the HF plus Wynn and the Shopsmith with standard hood because they are the two collectors that I have.
You can often buy the HF collector on sale for $179.99 at one of the HF stores and use one of their 20 percent off coupons and get it for $145.00. Not too bad a deal.
It's official you are infected and there is no cure. Congrats!

1960's SS Mark VII, 1954 Greenie, 1983 Mark V, Jointer, Bandsaw, Jigsaw, Dewalt Slider, Delta Super 10, Delta 8" Grinder, Craftsman compressor, Drill Doctor, Kreg PH Jig, Bosch Jigsaw, Craftsman Router and Table...........and adding more all the time....
Just for the sake of clarification, can someone clue us in on what model of HF dust collector we're talking about?
This is an area I have yet to address in my shop, and there are times I get tired of having to stop everything and sweep/vacuum for an hour. But my shop is a work in progress right now, having been in existence less than a year.
'55 Greenie #292284 (Mar-55), '89 SS 510 #020989, Mark VII #408551 (sold 10/14/12), SS Band Saw, (SS 500 #36063 (May-79) now gone to son-in-law as of 11-11), Magna bandsaw, Magna jointer 16185 (May-54), Magna belt sander SS28712 (Dec-82), Magna jigsaw SS4397 (Dec-78), SS biscuit joiner, Zyliss (knockoff) vise, 20+ hand planes, 60s Craftsman tablesaw, CarbaTec mini-lathe, and the usual pile of tools. I have the HF model and it works well for me with the standard bag. My shop in AZ is partly open so a few fine bits that may escape (but don't seem to) the standard bag don't bother me. I added a home made cyclone and only the finest dust (sanding dust size) even makes it to the lower bag. It will be a long time before I have to empty it.

Is it accurate to say: You have the 2hp HF DC , but have modified the setup so as to have a cyclone prior to the 'blower' as well as the one included after the 'blower'?

I don't consider the "included" one as much of a cyclone actually. I usually think of a cyclone's purpose in a DC system as saving the impeller and depositing the chips in an easy to empty separate container. You are right however, the stock model does swirl the dust, chips and stuff around.

I assume that swirling causes the heavier particles to fall into the bag. That is the purpose of a cyclone(the heavier stuff is separated from the lighter stuff(air).
I agree it doesn't look like much of a cyclone to me either(no decreasing radius cone[that is what makes the cyclone 'work']).
