Adding pictures to a Thread or Post

Post by admin »

Here are instructions to include an image in your post or thread.

1. EXISTING PICTURE ONLINE - Once you have gotten to the page where you can enter text as a reply or new thread, you will see a picture icon that looks like mountains and a sun. Click this to enter the URL that an image is located, for example
. This will show the image that is located at that link.

2. UPLOAD FROM YOUR PC - You can upload an image to your post as well from your computer. First locate the image file on your computer, then click the paper clip icon at the top of the page
Next click the browse button to select the file from your computer NOTE: the file must meet the limitations of the size and type listed at the bottom of the "paper clip link". Once you have selected the file click upload. Finally, once you have returned to the edit screen, click beside the paper clip where the down arrow is, and select the picture that you just uploaded. This will insert that picture into your post.

How to Resize Photos and Insert Into Posts

Post by ddvann79 »

Several have commented they were not familiar with methods of resizing photos to the 800 x 600 pixel format the Forum requires for uploading. May I humbly offer some pointers.

First, Google is a wonderful resource of FREE image editing software that is often easy and intuitive. One such program is Paint.net. There are many out there.

Secondly, most of you are running Windows. You already have a program installed that will resize images called Microsoft Office Picture Manager. If you are running Windows XP or earlier, it is likely your default image viewer. If you are running Windows 7, you can access it by right-clicking an image and selecting 'Open With' or in the photo viewer, click the 'Open' drop-down and select it. Here are some screen shot steps for reducing size in Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

1. On the Menu Bar, select Picture > Resize

2. On the right side of the screen, the Resize Menu will pop up. Under "Predifined width x height," select 'Document - Small (800 x 600)'.

3. Your image is now resized in two easy steps. Save your image with the same file name or select Save-As to save it as a new file name.

To put the image in a Forum message, upload with the Attachment Tool, accessed by using the paper clip icon in the message screen. All you need to do is Browse to the image and then Upload it.

Put the cursor where you want the image, click the paper clip icon again and select the image you want to insert. You're done.

Hope this helps!

Good post!

The part about attaching a pic is the same on a Mac.

And for resizing on a Mac just use Preview, select from the menu bar "Tools; Adjust size...".

Yes this is cool, but how do you display the pic right in the post so people don't have to click on the files?

It appears that when that pictures was taken the camera was set for low resolution. I typically take my photos at the highest resolution (3072x2304) the camera will handle and then down size when I use them.

The highest resolution used on this forum is 800x600. You can always down size but up sizing a low resolution photo produces a grainy image.
