Shakey tool
As usual the Xmas elves left some woodworking stuff at my house this year. One thing was a box with a handwritten note entitling me to purchase some version of tool like the Dremel Multi-max or Rockwell Soni-crafter. I don't intend to buy the top dog 10,000 HP Tim Taylor version of this tool but I probably will not get one for $9.99 from Harbor Freight either. Any experience with these? I believe that Sears sells one of these too.

I have the Dremel and like it ok, but the blades seem expensive and proprietary. The Dremel blades supposedly will fit the Bosch according to the package, so I bought a Bosch blade thinking the reverse would be true, but it's not. The Bosch did not say it would fit and I was wrong to assume so but it had a greater depth of cut and was rated for wood/metal. At the time Dremel blades were rated for only wood. I also found after my new purchase that there seemed to be a lot of refurbs available on Amazon. I don't know if this means they don't hold up or not. I know the head??? on mine gets almost too hot to hold.

I think that Woodcraft just brought out a new series of blades that supposedly work with "Fein MultiMaster, Bosch Multi-X, Craftsman Multi Tool, Dremel Multi-Max and Chicago Multi-Tool." I've not tried them. YMMV.

I borrowed a friends performax to install some laminate flooring. I had jams on 8 doorways to undercut. It worked flawlessly...The store I run is a service center for Rockwell. We have had only one problem with them. It was a switch. Parts are imported and had some problem obtaining the correct switch but problem was resolved in time. Customers are happy with the performance of Rockwell.
Also we sell Dremel and Craftsman. Customers that have purchased them have all been satisfied with performance. Blades seem to be the cheapest for the performax.

I have the Fein MultiMaster and have really been pleased with it. I have used it for trim work, cleaning out grout, cutting holes in wall board and paneling and sanding. It is well built. I have an older model. A friend just got the new easy blade lock model. It is nice. It makes much faster blade changes. They are a bit pricy. For me it has been worth the investment.
Make today a day that lets you smile!
