Thanks everyone for the feedback. I think I'll go take a look at it this weekend. If you think of anything else to watch out for on the planer, please let me know.

Agreed, it all depends on the area that you live in, and how plentiful ShopSmith power tools are in your area. I would jump at the chance to buy a planer for $400 assuming it was in good shape. Granted, I am new to ShopSmith's and just recently started keeping an eye out for parts and add-on's, but in my area the pickings have been really slim (i.e. non-existent) for the few weeks I have been keeping an eye out.SDSSmith wrote:Fair is in the eyes of the buyer. Prices vary significantly depending upon area. I too have seen or purchased a number of Pro Planers (free standing, cast iron table) in the $150 to $250 range. If you are in a "Shopsmith rich" area, you may be able to get a better deal than $400 with patience. And you can always offer the seller of the planer something less than what they are asking. All they can do is say no. But they can't say yes unless you ask.]
I have yet to see a ShopSmith planer being sold with a full ShopSmith setup, much less being sold individually. I may have to start stalking estate sales to see if I can find any good SS tools.
If anyone from a "ShopSmith rich" area will be driving through Albuquerque, New Mexico, and wants to pick up a good $150 dollar SS planer on your way, I will gladly buy it off of you for $200!
