Strip Sander Leather Belts

Has anyone found a place that has the leather strops and abrasive that Nick has in the sawdust session for sharpening the gouge? Also the buffing wheel that he uses?

All I can say is don't search Google for them, or at least not from work.

Thanks, Paul they have the 1x42" belts. I looked at Rockler and Woodcraft and didn't see it.

My Dad was into leathercraft for a number of years and made fan belts for Ford Model A cars (yes they used leather fan belts back then; helps car owners when they enter car show contests for authenticity). I'm going to check with my brother tomorrow to see if he can make these belts since he inherited all of my dad's leatherworking tools, including the sewing machines when my dad passed away. If that doesn't work, there is a local cobbler that may be able to help. I'll see what I can find out.

I think Nick had several places he listed that you might want to check out. If you want the thick one like he has I have that bookmarked somewhere but be prepaired to pay for it.

The Lee Valley belts are pretty thin; I'd go with the belts at Chipping Away. You can get the polishing wheels and compound at Belchers Carving Supply, http://belchercarvingsupply.tripod.com/ . Dick Belcher also has a very few leather belts in his inventory -- that's where I got the one you saw on the webcast.

Note: Dick's web site is not the easiest to navigate, nor does he have all the stuff he carries listed. I recommend you give him a call. Great guy, dynamite resource. Hope to have him on a Sawdust Session sooner or later.

Thanks for all of the replies. Looks like I will be making another order soon.

Nick I watch your video tip on sharpening knifes. How long a knife have you used your sharpening jig with? I was thinking about kitchen knifes.
