unique project for the house

Post by rdewinter »

This is an Arts & Craft/Mission style Hall Secretary. Top hinged lid is for charging electronics (cell phones, gps, etc), a drawer for keys and stuff, and a door to store my wife's purse and other stuff.

Carcass joinery is tongue and dado joints, with face frame attached with pocket hole joinery.

Wood used: White oak (salvaged from dunnage)
Red oak
Red Oak 3/4" plywood. Grade A1 (sides, top)
Red Oak 1/4" plywood (drawer bottoms and back)
Alder and popular (web frames and drawer partitions)

Book matched frame and panel door made from 1" thick piece of red oak.

Mission style hardware from Rockler.

Stained with General finishes gel stain called candlelight and two coats of Minwax poly urethane also from Rockler.

Great piece that will work and look well in the hallway next to the front door.

Bob, that's a great looking piece, and pretty handy for hiding the everyday clutter! Did you make the plans yourself or get them somewhere?

Hall secretary plans

Post by rdewinter »

Julian
The design is my own idea. I wanted to make something that was especially practical for ourselves and fit with the decor of the house. I drew up the plans myself.

The photography leaves much to be desired, but I'm glad you liked it.
