EVapoprust ...

Can you paint over evaporust. It says you can dip in evaporust one last time and let it dry in order to prevent rust, but it does not seem to paint well after ... anyone tried to paint over it ?

Evaporust has detergents and surfactants, so it should be throughly removed before painting.

If you were to dip a painted piece in Evaporust would it damage the paint?

Evapo rust

Post by dan1999 »

I would neutralize the evaporust by applying acetone to it, acetone makes a great neutralizing agent with stripper I don't see why it wouldn't work with evapo rust, same principal.

Absolutely loved Valcartier when I was there in the 80's one of my favourite bases in the service, the scenery is breathtaking. Do you get to Montreal often?

From the evapo-rust website:

After De-rusting

Once the item has been de-rusted, you have several options: 1)Wash and rinse the item off and go to the next process for painting, coating, etc. 2) Wash & rinse the item off and apply a long term rust inhibitor (see next paragraph); or 3) Wash and rinse the item and dip back into EVAPO-RUST, remove and let dry. EVAPO-RUST will provide about 10-14 days of rust inhibition, depending on the humidity. Wash and rinse when ready to paint or apply long-term CPC.

To protect the cleaned metal during storage or shipment, use Rust Bandit or Daubert Cromwell corrosion inhibitor packaging - film, paper, emitters, or other as required by the type of metal, packaging application, condition and duration of storage. For product selection assistance, call Daubert Cromwell at 800.535.3535, e-mail, or click the logo at the bottom of the page to access http://www.daubertcromwell.com.
