I have just finished viewing the Sawdust Session on Bandsawn Finger Joints. It was very interesting and fortunately a much better presentation than the Live Online Session. Job well done.
However, viewing it has refostered a question previously asked on the forum and to my knowledge never answered.
What function is served by that portion of the rail that extends way beyond the left side of the bandsaw table and why does the rail NOT extend further to the right?

Well Dusty,
That is for the Kreg fencing system (556030). What it allows you to do is extend the fence into the throat of the band saw further. The SS fence will only allow you to take the fence to the edge of the table. With the Kreg fence it extends the "rail" the fence locks onto. It too has one on the other side to support the other end of the fence. Your fence-able cut then becomes 8-9" wide which is about twice the width you can get from the SS fencing system.
I hope that sheds some light on you question.
Be good,
Drew

OK Drew,
I can see from the illustration that the rip fence can be moved left, right against the throat.
What is the rail to the left of the fence for?
Why does the rail not extend to the right edge of the table? It appears as though the rail is installed incorrectly.
The Kreg installation procedures seems to indicate what I am saying - view the Kreg provided documents to se what I am saying.

Well, I have got your answer, and I hope I can explain it well enough for you to understand. (one day, me talk pretty, I hope)
On the Kreg fence there is a micro adjust on the back, as you can see by this photo. This micro adjust, at full extension, needs all of the extrusion for full adjustment.

And, on the other side, lets say front, when the fence is all the way against the blade, takes up all of the front of the extrusion. Seen in the second photo.

And for clarification, the instructions are written for Delta, Craftsman, Jet, Rigid, and imports.
So, that is the long and short of it right there.
Be good,
Drew

Drew,
Thank you I have been trying to figure this out since I got the fence. I ordered the micro-adjustment but have not unpacked it yet. I have been using the fence daily, but I was never sure it was installed correctly.
I was going to cut the end off because it is a danger in my shop, now I need another solution.

Thank you Drew. The photos that you provided have cleared up ALL of my questions regarding the Kreg Bandsaw Fence.
Yes, I knew that the instructions were for other than a Shopsmith installation. Kreg doesn't have a set for Shopsmith on their website. We're sort of like bastard step children.
This is one of the items that I would suggest get added to the technical manuals section of the shopsmith.com website.
Thanks again.
