Here's the direct quote from the page you linked to: "rip stock up to 9-3/8" wide. That's 4-3/8" wider than our regular bandsaw rip fence.". The distance between the blade and throat does limit you but there is space between the table and throat. On the shopsmith fence you can't use this space because there are no rails extending beyond the table. On the Kreg the rails allow you to set your rip fence all the way against the throat giving you more rip capacity.dusty wrote:I don't see this claim in the Shopsmith ad. It seems to me though that rip capacity is limited by the size of the opening and that the fence (any fence) is unable to increase that dimension.
This limited capacity (with or without a Kreg Fence) is a only negative factor that I can find with my band saw. Bigger would be better but that I have no room for bigger.

I was hung up on resaw capacity and did not read carefully either your comments or the ad.
I hardly ever turn to the bandsaw to rip anything except small pieces that I cannot do safely on the Mark V.

It has been conclusively proven that 'going to work' causes brain cells to become inoperative.rlkeeney wrote:Later after I had gone to work and didn't have access the forum this occurred to me out of the blue. I can only assume that one of my few remaining brain cells was still sleeping.
Proof can be found in management at all levels.
Also caused by lack of 'hands on' exercise.

I am so very thankful that I spent most of my career as an Engineering Technician. This avoided the stated plague of "management" while allowing for continued "hands on" experience. Furthermore, with overtime, the pay was even better.
