Whaddya think Red?

[edit] The serial number if 408551. Is there a build chart to correlate that to date of manufacture?
I think:

A new thread is not necessary, but maybe desirable.

This is a learning experience for me as well.

I have not had my hands on one ever!;)

get er done!

Well, a quick search didn't prove too useful, so I figure iffen I was to do one and label it plain, maybe the next guy to luck into a Mark VII might be able to find some information gleaned during my struggles with this little beasty. So, I've got it posted under Maintenance and Repair.

I've got lots of questions, some observations, and a little curiousity about these things now.

Like, serial number 408551; does that help tell if it's a later model or what year/month it may have been manufactured?

Only the shadow knows! We do not even have Mark 5 sn for that period.

I am guessing the sn for both M5 and MVII were contiguous.

anyone wanna guess

Does anyone have any idea as to maybe where the serial numbers started or ended, or even the years it was in production? I have the original manuals and a whole stack of SS catalogs, but not the original bill of sale.

I guess I could try to remember to ask Ms. Rader what year they bought it when I see her in a couple of weeks.

It went into production in mid to late1963(I remember since I bought my Goldie in the spring of that year).

What dates are on the 'manuals' etc.?

Based on a couple of threads on SSUG, 408551 was probably one of the later models, possibly late 1965 or 1966. Supposedly numbering started at 400000 when they were released in 1963 as JPG pointed out in his earlier post, and Magna American ceased manufacturing in 1966.

So wait, let me ask a clarifying question:
Are you saying that Magna was still in business and produced the Mark 7 while Yuba was in business producing the Mark 5?

Yuba was not producing Mark 5's in 1963, Magna American was.

I believe the gilmer/3/4hp version of the Goldie was Yuba, and the Poly-v/1 1/8 hp version was introduced by Magna-American, but I have nothing to substantiate that.
