I'm pretty sure it's not a 510 table (too big and no floating tables) and the handle on the carriage is the old handle style rather than a wheel.

here are the questions I asked in an email earlier today.

what year is the shopsmith?

do you have the serial number?

I noticed that the table is modified. In-house modification or someone else? Any other mods? Is the miter slot still Shopsmith size or is it standard sized like other table saws.

Is it is single bearing quill or double?

what attachments that you have for this?

Any other questions I should ask before even trucking 45 miles or so to check it out? I'd hate to burn up 1/2 tank or so of gas just to look and turn home. I ask for other questions because I value this forum's experience input.

depending on which "attachments" are included and of course the general condition of the unit will determine if I make an offer or not.

I conclude from the photo image that this is NOT a 510 table. Clues: 1. The table dimension to the left of the left miter track is nearly the same size as the area to the right of the right miter track. 2. The shape of the insert is incorrect and too wide relative to the distance between the miter tracks. The distance between miter tracks on a 510 table is 7" and 3" of that is insert centered on the blade. The remaining 4" is divided equally by the blade half and right of the blade.

I think you're right and I was wrong!

Still, a VERY interesting modification.

I just got off the phone with the seller, nice enough guy, but not a SS person. The SS is in a manufacturing environment and no one really knows where it came from or how long it has been in service or the history of the table modification. It seems ownership of the facility and tools has changed hands more than once.

Seller/User is a pattern maker so understands precision and says the saw is accurate and runs well. He and a mechanic friend went through a while back, cleaned, and lubed and he says works fine and makes clean cuts. Reports action of fence is accurate and smooth once assembled correctly.

Seller knows nothing of the table mod, this has been in a "professional Shop" for years and passed through numerous owners

Based on what I'm looking for, I think I'm going to pass on this. Not sure I want to make a 45 mile trek, to look at everything just to eventually pass on it. I'm concerned about the table mod. While a large table is nice to have, that one may be a bit too large for me. Basically I have to go look at the thing to make the determination and I'm not sure I want to go all the way out there just to turn it down.

I think I'll ask LOML if she wants to get lunch down by the beach Saturday and make a day of it. I'm sure she'll say yes to the date, I'm not sure if she wants to go by some random shop for me to look at tools though.

Me - Yes, I'm not too sure about it the table seems awfully big and it's not a Shopsmith Upgrade
SWMBO - You don't have room for another machine, so just forget about it.

that was the end of that discussion, no room = no cash for the purchase.

Terry, you've nailed it! One the "hazards" of living 450 miles from my wife is that my house is chock full of whatever I want it to be chock full of.
When she visits, she is always interested and enthusiastic about acquisitions that are new since she last visited.
But of course she didn't see the 59 Greenie in my kitchen.
Luckily I sold it this week to a nice young fella who will hopefully be joining us in the forum soon. Nice to see someone so enthusiastic at his age.

The fence is an Excalibur fence, and the table is the table from the Sawsmith 2000 table saw. The Sawsmith 2000 was manufactured with two fence systems; an Excalibur fence and rails, and a 510 style fence and rails.

A while back I saw a unique scroll saw (it had a humongous table extension) on craigslist from a graphics company in Pennsylvania. According to the listing it made special for them by ShopSmith. I think this may be one of those cases were Shopsmith sold a modified machine to a another business.
