Dusty, thanks for your honesty. I too just follow the old way in the PTWE and it works for me. (The process does require some cursing and at least one beer afterwards.)

As I mentioned in the other thread, this leads to the blades being just a smidegon proud of the table. I have no idea whether it's .001 or .002 -- I just know it works to a accuracy that is acceptable to me.

Thanks Nick

Nick,
I just wanted to say thanks for the jointer knife setting jig plans. I have always set mine the old way, but your jig seemed like it would be fun to build. I apologize for taking a few liberties with your design. The jig seems to be accurate down to .001. I don't know if I will give up my old method, but will give this thing a good try. I should point out, this entire jig was built with the SS 500. It would be nice if more folks posted pics of their jigs and fixtures they have made.

ldh, your such a show-off! :) I'm just kidding, that's nice work. You could make and sell jigs for a living. ;)

Bruce,
Thanks for the encouragement. I suppose I will now have to build a nice little ebony box with delicate finger joints to store it in. Don't let the antibodies get you.

I've gone online and found several magnetic bases for sale. Some have 44# holding power, some more.

How lbs holding power is recommended for this jig?

Thanks,
RAS

RAS,
Take a look at what the ENCO Company has to offer. They offer inexpensive odds and ends for the machine shop and are great folks to deal with.
