I toally agree Ed. Two of the worst pieces of malware out there are Norton and McAfee. Removing the performance drag from those is much more difficult than simply unistalling them. They install so many junk services that don't unistall cleanly.
I recently got a new computer. One of the first things I did before connecting to the internet, was to remove the pre-installed trial ware (McAfee in this case) and all of the various and sundry crap that the uninstaller leaves behind. I also uninstall the crapware that gets jammed down my throat from the OEM. Then I install Windows Defender and all my other apps. Free anti-virus software regularly updated with good surfing and email habits will keep most malware at bay.
