As an update to JPG's original post, I just discovered this in a Shopsmith Mark V parts list supplement:

"The Major Change in the whole Mark V line came in 1961 when they changed from a 3/4 hp to a 1-1/8 hp motor and they changed the belt drive from a gilmer (cogged) belt to a multiple "V" belt drive. All models with a serial number above 371347 are the new type and correspond to the new parts list."

So, Serial # 371347 was the last 3/4 hp, gilmer drive unit. Alec

that is consistant with mine, which is/was 368399 and was/is gilmer drive and 3/4 hp AND 1.75 bench tubes, not the 1.875"

My Goldie, purchased new, is #369442 with a gilmer drive, 3/4 hp motor, 1.75" tubes.

I am amazed at how many forum members state that they purchased their goldies new. How many items have you owned for over 50 years. I have a gold filling that's over 50 years old, but that's about it.

I love using a machine that is older than I am.

I had to wait for my first decade to end before they 'appeared'.

So these late Yuba machines had the smaller(1 3/4") bench tubes.

Any one have sn for a Yuba Goldie with 1 7/8" bench tubes?

Red, I sold a pristine original 1959 Greenie a few months ago that had 1-3/4 bench tubes. It came from an estate north of me, and I was recently informed that it was bought new in 59 and was used as is, where is, etc and was bone stock.
The holes for the bench tubes were the same size as all the 1-3/4 models, where as both of my 56 Greenies have the larger tubes and the bigger holes for them.
I have to conclude that all Goldie/Brownies had the smaller tubes.

Makes sense! However a couple of folks have indicated their Goldie bench tubes are 1 7/8".
