If you want to double tilt upgrade your 500, just switch to a set of Mark VII tables. They are larger, double tilt, and work fine on a 500 type setup. If you are interested I have some available.

I still think a Mark VII headstock should be convertible to a PP but I understand why it is not a can of worms that SS would want to dive into...
Just not enough Mark VII's out there to be worth their effort when you can just change out the complete headstock.

Eh, the only thing you are loosing from a Mark VII headstock to a powerpro switch is the vacuum capability...and I would be curious to know how many folks have that still working and use it as opposed to using a shop vac or other dust collection.

You may need to add the Mark VII fence to the tables if you go this route.

Please elaborate. How to they differ?

My blower works OK but I don't have the bag for the lower compartment or hoses or fittings (or a lower guard). OK, I do have a regular lower guard for the old Mark V's that will fit. I don't use the Mark VII often but keep it for the left tilt feature and big table. I guess I am prone to want to "save it back" and not wear out the yoke bearing.
I don't have time now but it would be an interesting experiment to hook a hose from the guard to the input side of the blower (face) and then hook a 2-1/2" hose from the blower output to my shop vac and putter around comparing air flow in different configurations.
The shop vac is high water column with less CFM's while the Mark VII blower is high CFM without much water column pull. It might be interesting deciding if they work with each other or against each other.

Thanks very much for all your replies. It looks to me like the holes for the pins on the new tubes are on a different side of the tube than the 500 pins. If so, I guess you could just drill proper size holes on the proper side of the new tubes for the 500 configuration, and replace the pins with new ones.. yes? Damagi, as to the older Mark VII tables; do the Mark 5 500 table inserts fit in them? Alec

You took the words out of my mouth. AIUI the MVII table has the front rail like the M5/500 and is the same dimension front to rear. The rear clamp is lever actuated similar to a 510, but the clamp is the same(or very similar). SEE BELOW

It is the front to rear dimension that may be a problem. farmer or damagi or ???
