I recollect reading somewhere - this forum maybe, or the SS manual - that auto wax shouldn't be used because it is designed to dry to form a hard protective skin. That renders it unsuitable as a lubricant. I believe the same applies to modern furniture polish too.

I just purchased a shopsmith for the first time with no manual, so these forums have been very usefull. I feel like I just joined some kind of new family. Anyway, rwilabee's original post asked about the "cam surface" and where it was. It's got me stumped on what they are talking about. Did rwilabee ever figure this out?

The lock lever has a rounded end that 'cams' against the end casting as it pulls the large headed screw against the tie rod to lock it.
