Great idea for a thread (and thanks for the compliment greenvillageguy)! Here's the horse for easy reference (yes, I am proud of it, it's my best project to date):

Pretty rocking horse!

One of these days, when I stop being addicted to turning, I'll try something else for a change. In the meantime, here's a few pictures of two bud vases, a figured maple bowl, some oak plates, and a "tree wood" bowl. Didn't take pictures of the small herd of bandsaw reindeer, they're addictive too (thanks, Nick!).

Very nice work! And yes, turning is additive. I wish I had your gift for style. Very nice lines.

You folks have created some very nice gifts. They all look great!

However, the main purpose of my post is to ask how you embedded your images in your posts? I've never been able to get the picture/image to show directly - you have to click on a link to see the image. Somehow, some of you have images displayed automatically without the need of clicking on a link. I must be missing something as all I see in the "Attach files" section under Additional Options when posting but no way to embed the image within the page. I suppose I could use the tags but would require that I have the image on a website so it could be addressed. Could I upload an image to the files or photos area and then use that location as the URL?

I must give credit to Ed in Tampa. I had the same problem and emailed him to figure it out. Here is his response:

If you know how to append them then your half way there. Once you go through the steps to be able to append them click on the down arrow by the paper clip once again and you will see the name of the picture you want to append, click on it and code will be inserted in the post. If you review the post you will then see the picture in your post.

Ed

The only thing I would add is that you won't be able to see the pictures until you actually post the reply. Until then, some criptic computerease shows up in your reply.

Okay, need some more info as I think symantics are getting in the way. You use the term "append" - that command doesn't exist as far as I can see. Is this really "Insert Image" or does it fall under the Additional Options section & Attach Files? Also, I don't see any paperclick you mention in your post.

I suppose this series of post should be in a separate post so they don't take away from the initial topic being discussed.

Embedding pictures

Post by Greenvilleguy »

Step 1. Click on the "Post Reply" button.
Step 2. Click on the "Paper clip" icon in the first tool bar row. (If you hit Quick reply, you will have to go to "Advanced".
Step 3. Using the "Browse", find the picture on your computer. It must be compressed to 600 x 480 (I think).
Step 4. Click on the upload button. When the image arrives, click close window.
Step 5. Click on the down arrow to the right hand side of the "paper clip". Clip on the name of the image you wish to embed and some gobbility gook shows up in your reply. It looks like ATTACH 773 ATTACH with some brackets around it.

Step 6. Save your reply.

You click in the globe with the chain, that will allow you to upload the photo. Once the photo is uploaded you will see an arrow next to the symbol, clicking it will allow you to embed the photo(s).

Wow, so simple. I completely missed the paper click icon...

Thanks for the step by step instructions. I went back and edited on of my post on "Pen Turning - Some pen pictures". When I went to the Advanced selection it allowed me to change the images from links to embedded images. Pretty slick and really what I was looking to do.

Your instructions should be in the FAQs for everyone to see.
