Had to dismantal the workshop of a very clever craftsman/engineer. Twas a sad job indeed.
I can say that he carefully fit thing together in interesting stands and the like, in order to minimize space used. Tucking this under that, the other between, turned thusly.
He put many hours into the design of each storage compartment/rack/thingie, but it worked superbly.
As an example, a wall mounted socket to hold the jig saw would have included pull out storage bins in the saw loop, and around the base. Not an inch would have been allowed unused.
