This past weekend I was pondering the bar size problem and noticed that not only does the Jessem bar not fit into the channel, the bar (if it were to go into the channel) would be about a sixteenth of an inch higher than the table surface. I don't think this is going to work.

I have not gotten any more feedback from Jessem. I sent them the above information and begged them to consider manufacturing a SS-specific bar. I don't think there is any other alternative. If you grind down the Jessem bar as extensively as you would need to for it to fit, I think you risk the precision of the tool as mtobey has suggested.

Bummed.

No further response from Jessem at this point.

Turns out the bar is also taller than the channel by about a 16th of an inch. I think the standard bar on a Jessm Mite-R-Excel and the Shopsmith are permanently incompatible.

I sent along the additional finding to Jessem and begged them to consider manufacturing a Shopsmith-specific bar. If they repsond to that request or repsond at all, I'll post it here.

Thanks again for all your sggestions,
Mike

This evening when I got home two Incra SS bars awaited me. They are perfect and include Incra's excellent adjusters. I had purchased 2 of the SS accessory bars but they rattle around in the slot. According to CS they are not the bar from the SSgauge. Were I to use those, I would drill and tap about 6 10-24 holes along one side and insert setscrews with the nylok insert and use those to square and take out slop. I have successfully sanded down the Incra aftermarket aluminum bars with the split wedge screw adjusters. It will work.

So, as of tonight I have an Incra 2000 on the SS table- but because it is so huge in relationship to the table, I removed that fence and shifted it to a brand new Incra V27. The Incra SS bar is not drilled and tapped for that basic gauge. The V27 and long fence are now on my tablesaw and the fancier 2000 on the SS is getting a very simple but flexible fence- 3/4" Baltic Birch ply with a mini miter slide for attachments and stiffening. Even though the 2000 is bulkier there is a reason that is a plus for a SS table. It is easy to swing the gauge over to right of blade miter groove. The 180* swing is a piece of cake on the 2000. It was a long way around, but worth it. I bought an extra SS dedicated Incra bar, just in case.....mt

More bad news! The Jessem bar is too tall as well. I have heard from Jessem but they have not come to any conclusions yet. I will post here again when they decide if they can make a SS-specific bar.

Thanks,
Mike

Who at Jessem did you talk to? Perhaps if a few of us here on the forum would "second" your request it might convince Jessem to make a SS miter bar.

Hi - I'd like to know which Incra models have SS bars available for them. I bought a 1000 SE before I realized that the SS miter slot was not standard size (width or depth), and I emailed Incra. I was told then that another bar did not exist.

I got an email from Dan Sherman at Jessem today, DSherman@Jessem.com. I plead my case for a a Shopsmith bar for the Mite-R-Excel.

Ed, I don't see your post here but I did get an email that you might also contact Dan and support the cause for a SS-Specific bar. Please do.

Thanks,
Mike

Now I see you, Ed. If you and others would like to contact Jessem, who knows. Maybe a grass roots effort might push them over the top.
