A pair of shoes?

I ran into the same problem when I replaced the straight mounting tubes under my older belt sander with the offset ones to better align the power take-off on the power head with the drive hub on the belt sander. I assumed they came in sets of two like a pair of shoes, because nobody would just buy one shoe would they? And after paying that much for the offset tube and almost as much to ship that one I wasn't about to order another one. I already had as much as it was worth in shipping. So I threw the old straight steel tube in the metal lathe and used a parting tool and then cut the two pieces flat and chopped off a piece of 3/8" flat steel plate and welded the two pieces of tube back on with the required 1/4" offset. And works as good as the new aluminum one. Or maybe better. Next time I will give a little more thought to the problem before I go ordering anything.

Don:
Are you reporting that you ordered
this and received only one tube? If so, then I believe you should place a call to 1-800-573-7586 to discuss it.
Here is what an ad will look like if two(2) of an item are required.
If you order
these, do you need to order two(2). I don't think so. They come as a set.
However, If you ordered
these, then you need two and the ad is for only one but the
exploded parts view (item #51) very clearly states that two are required while the price is for one(1) each..

I went to the exploded parts diagram for the belt sander:
http://www.shopsmith.com/service/beltsa ... iagram.htm
and picked number 74 and ordered them. . . . And in my head it appeared that two (a pair) are required and thats what I would get. But didn't.
